Its founders are Lowell Jooste (co-owner of the famous winery Klein Constantia), Hubert de Bo\u00fcard (co-owner of Chateau Ang\u00e9lus) and Bruno Prats (former owner of Chateau Cos d&#8217;Estournel). They owned 40 hectares of vineyards growing Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot berries. After releasing the first blend of Anwilka from Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon berries in 2005, they immediately gained worldwide recognition. Robert Parker, a prominent wine critic, said Anwilka is one of the best red wines from South Africa. In May 2012, Anwilka Winery merged with Klein Constantia. The former founders of the company, L. Jooste, H. de Bo\u00fcard and B. Prats, remain co-owners and continue to be actively involved in the company&#8217;s activities. The winery also released the second Anwilka wine, Anwilka Petit Frere.<\/p>\n<p>The Anwilka Stellenbosch WO 2018 blend is made from 52% Syrah, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Petit Verdot berries. The long and cold winter led to the subsequent ripening of the buds. Therefore, in order to ensure a good concentration of wines, winemakers had to harvest part of the unripe harvest. The remaining harvest was picked by hand to separate only the healthy and fully ripe berries. The wine was fermented in stainless steel barrels. Long maceration (storage with cuticles) results in a mature color and extraction of phenols.
