Description
Bodegas Volver Triga Alicante 2017 – aromas of black berries and fruits with HINTS of wood, vanilla, black pepper and leather. Rich palette, mature acid, small tannins.
The house of Bodegas Volver was founded in 2004 by the oenologist Rafael Cañizares. Their aim is to improve the quality of Spanish wines and to restore old local vineyards that have been lost and neglected due to under-harvesting or the dismantling of former wineries. A modern approach to working with local grapes like Monastrell, Tempranillo, Merseguera, Macabeo or Moscatel has become the hallmark of these houses. They can now be proud of their old, 30- to 90-year-old, native varieties.
With vineyard areas in several regions of Spain, such as Murcia and Castilla la Mancha, they not only perfectly reflect the region’s “terroir” but also enliven the range of wines throughout Spain. One of them, Triga, is created from several vineyards in the Alicante region of Murcia. Made from 85% Monastrell and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon berries growing on old vines. For this reason, the yield is low, but the grapes stand out for their concentration. The soil of these vineyards is dry and shallow. It is dominated by limestone with chalk nuances. Therefore, mineral notes are felt in the wine.
For this wine, the grapes are picked by hand, carefully selecting undamaged and well-ripened berries. Maceration (juice storage with skins) and fermentation take place in large, open, stainless steel tanks. At the end of the fermentation, the wine is transferred to new, French oak barrels. The wine is then aged for 22 months in new oak barrels. Bodegas Volver Triga Alicante 2017 can be used now or kept for another 3 years. As the wine is unfiltered, we recommend decanting it and bringing it to a light temperature of 14 ° C. Goes well with lamb loin, beef steaks or stews.
