Description
Weingut Gesellmann Beerenauslese 2022 – an elegant and expressive Austrian dessert wine with exquisite sweetness and vibrant acidity.
Weingut Gesellmann is a family-owned winery located in the Mittelburgenland region of Austria. Here the family has been growing grapes since 1719. The winery became widely recognised in the 1970s under the leadership of Engelbert Gesellmann, one of the pioneers of premium red winemaking in Burgenland. The winery has been certified organic since 2015 and is recognised for producing distinctive wines that express the character of the region.
Beerenauslese is a prestigious category of Austrian sweet wine made from individually selected, overripe grapes. Grapes often affected by noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), which concentrates their sugars and contributes complex aromas. The 2022 vintage of Gesellmann Beerenauslese is produced exclusively from Sämling 88 (Scheurebe) a grape variety particularly valued for its expressive, exotic aromatic profile. The grapes were harvested by hand in December 2022. It allows them to develop the concentration and ripeness essential for this style. The wine contains approximately 132.2 g/l of residual sugar and has an alcohol content of 11%, with its natural acidity providing balance and freshness.
Tasting Notes:
The wine displays a luminous golden-yellow colour with delicate silver reflections. The nose is expressive and inviting, revealing notes of apricot jam, passion fruit, candied orange peel and honey, complemented by subtle nuances of noble botrytis.
On the palate, the wine is rich and luscious, with concentrated flavours of ripe yellow peach and apricot, exotic fruit and honey. Its well-integrated sweetness is balanced by refreshing acidity, creating an elegant, precise and mineral-driven finish with lingering notes of orange zest. Despite its richness, the wine retains a light-footed character and excellent freshness.
Serving:
Weingut Gesellmann Beerenauslese 2022 is ready to enjoy now. Its balance of concentrated sweetness and vibrant acidity also gives it the potential to develop additional complexity with careful cellaring.
We recommend serving it well chilled at 8–10°C in a white wine or dessert wine glass. Decanting is generally unnecessary.
It pairs beautifully with fruit-based desserts, apricot tart and delicate pastries. It is also an excellent match for blue cheeses, such as Roquefort, where the wine’s sweetness contrasts with the cheese’s saltiness and intensity. It can also be enjoyed on its own as an elegant conclusion to a meal.
