Description
Achaval-Ferrer Finca Altamira – a rare wine of one vineyard harvest from the highlands of Mendoza.
It is a powerful, weighty, ripe wine that is has a firm texture and long aftertaste. Achaval-Ferrer is a producer that only started in 1998. However, it immediately became a sought-after and well-known producer for the quality of its wines. The Achaval-Ferrer team looked for the most suitable vineyards for their wines. They chose lands where to plant (or have already planted) a particular grape with compatible soil. As a result, a large proportion of the grapes harvested are those that grew on old vines. Why is this important? Because the older vine gives a more concentrated berry, as a result of which we feel more and more intense after squeezing the juice and making the wine. Also, this winemaker uses only “ungrafted” grapes. These are the grapes that grow on their roots.
Achaval-Ferrer Finca Altamira is the wine of one individual vineyard. The vineyard itself is located 1050 meters above sea level. This vineyard is located in the Uko Valley, in the southwestern part of Mendoza. The western part of Mendoza is based in the Andes, so wines are produced here that retain more freshness and freshness despite the hot climate of Mendoza. Altamira is one of the sub-regions of Uko. And the Uko Valley itself is a subregion of Mendoza. This particular Altamira vineyard grows grapes that are over 80 years old. This gives a clearer, more concentrated flavor. What makes wine even rarer is its yield. In the New World, it is difficult to find the following low vineyard productivity: 12hl / ha. It is usually 4-5 times larger.
Achaval-Ferrer Finca Altamira is made from 100% Malbec grapes. After fermentation, the wine is matured in new French oak barrels. This gives the wine even more texture and weight. The wine is not filtered before it is bottled – the winemaker does not want the filtration to remove part of the wine’s “body”.
