Description
Chateau d’Armailhac Pauillac Grand Cru Classe 2013 – is a Pauillac Grand Cru Classé (Fifth Growth) from the Médoc in Bordeaux, France. It is owned by the Rothschild family and known for its classic Left Bank style. The wine is a blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a small proportion of Petit Verdot. Grapes sourced from gravelly soils well suited to structured, age-worthy wines.
The 2013 vintage was challenging in Bordeaux, with cool and wet conditions early in the year and a late harvest. This results in lower yields but careful selection and a fresher, more elegant style. The wine was aged for around 18 months in French oak barrels, roughly half of them new, giving balance between fruit and oak influence.
In the glass, it shows a deep garnet color with ruby highlights, and on the nose offers aromas of red and black currants, subtle cedar, graphite and light spice. On the palate it is medium-bodied, refined and precise, with firm yet polished tannins, fresh acidity, and flavors of dark berries, tobacco and gentle oak. The finish is long and balance rather than power. The alcohol level is around 13%, and the wine is approachable now while still capable of further aging.
